This product is intended for residential purposes only.
We believe that everyone should be able to experience the joy of swinging, which is why we offer this ADA accessible swing seat. It is specially designed to accommodate physically challenged children, providing them with added support and comfort. The seat is rotationally molded, making it exceptionally strong and durable. We take safety seriously, which is why we designed this swing to meet both CPSC and ASTM standards, as well as ADA guidelines.
Our new swing design offers even more support with wider sides, larger armrests, and a bigger footrest. The fully adjustable chains allow for different reclining positions, ensuring that children with varying needs can enjoy the swing. With our ADA accessible swing, every child can have the opportunity to swing and have fun!
This swing is designed with a yoke and a new unique locking system. This yoke does not need to be detached in order to meet ASTM and CPSC head entrapment standards. If further support is needed, an optional removable harness is available for extra support. This harness is meant to further enclose the child and does not meet ASTM and CPSC standards for head entrapment which is why we are now using the yoke system. We will assume no liability for injury’s caused by optional harness.
The ADA Swing is convenient because a child can be easily lifted onto the swing and the yoke quickly put in place to hold the child in the seat. With its partially reclined, body-embracing design, overhead yoke, the ADA Swing offers children a safe and comfortable fun ride.
Every child should have the memory of playing on a swing set, swinging to and fro. However, for a child with special needs, swinging is not only an activity that he or she enjoys, it is helping a child to develop.
Many children with special needs actually learn better while swinging. It has been found that they retain more of the information being taught. A child may have less anxiety, improved behavior, and be more focused. If taught while swinging, the sensory input has been found to aid in improved eye contact, improve children’s responses and improve speech skills.
Sensory integration therapy often includes swinging which improves fine motor skills, which includes balance, touch, and a means to better manage his or her body in space and awareness of the body position.
Playing on swings develops relationships. A shared play experience can help with imagination, communication, and interactions with others. It can provide a positive experience that develops empathy for others. A child may have special needs, but sometimes, he or she just needs to be a kid, and swinging helps them develop socialization skills and to enjoy interacting with their peers.
The specifications for the ADA Swing: It is made of durable rotational molded plastic. All of the hardware, except the attaching chain, is stainless steel to prevent rust. The point where the eye bolts attach has special reinforcement to help prevent breakage. You will no longer have to state the swing frame height when ordering. The swing will come with a stainless steel H shackle and wrench for attaching a separate chain. You will need to order additional chain based on how high your frame is and how far you want the seat to recline. Please see the chart below for length of chain needed for different frame heights for average seat inclination. You may need to order chain a few inches up to six inches longer, depending upon how far back you need the seat to recline for the safety of your child.
**Installation, Safe Use and Maintenance Instructions**
Important: To keep children safe from harm, follow these precautions and instructions when installing, using, or maintaining this playground equipment. You can also call us at 1-800-443-2573 for more information or see http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/325.pdf.
Due to the thermo dynamics and lower heat transfer properties of plastics, plastic is preferred over metal for play equipment. Although plastic may become as hot as metal, they insulate better and don’t transfer the heat as quickly. Because of these properties, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recommends plastic slides and plastic surfaces over bare metal. Regardless of lower heat transfer properties, plastic play equipment can still become hot enough ‐‐ in extreme temperatures and direct sunlight ‐‐ to cause burns. Plastic is safe, tried and true, but as is the case with all playground equipment, parents and supervisors must monitor the children in their care, make certain that the equipment is appropriate for their age, and always check playground surfaces for excessive heat before allowing children to play. Installation: Our parts are sold as either replacement parts or components of a set, unless you are buying our Metal Frame Set, therefore these parts need to be installed according to the sets installation instructions. If the installation instructions differ from ours please contact us at 800-433-2573.
Make sure when seat is installed the warning label is visible. Please see a minimum of additional label information attached to your packing list for information on installing other necessary labeling for playgrounds. The seat should be 18” off the ground. Each seat comes with two lengths of chain that is attached as a V to each pair of eyebolts along with the A5730 shackle for adjustment of seat and for the additional piece of chain, not included. An A570 wrench is also included. If not using shackle pendulum swing hangers, you will need to order two H172’s or two s hooks for the extra piece of chain to attach to the swing hanger. Tighten H-shackles tightly. Hangers need to be spaced 2 ft from the end of the set and 2 ft apart for each swing.
Chain that is needed but must be ordered separately:
For Residential ADA you need to order for an 8’ frame 2 @ 1’ chains.
10’ frame 2 @ 3’ chains.
12’ frame 2 @ 5’ chains.
With the above listed chain requirements, ADA swing will have the correct length of chains to meet ASTM standards for your height of swing set. An additional webbed harness is available and must be ordered separately if needed.
If you use S-hooks you will need to make sure the S-hooks are closed to within .04 to meet ASTM safety standards. To do this you will need to use our S-hook Channel lock pliers or a regular pair of channel lock. WARNING: Once the S-hooks have been opened they will have to be replaced to avoid injuries from coming open and/or breaking. Make sure that the shackles used are tightened and if you use the shackle swing hangers for the chain that these also are tightened. Inspect regularly or use Loctite® to make sure bolt is still tight.
To meet EN 1176-1 ONLY, we will not supply the chain with the seat. Here are the instructions to attach the chain meeting EN 1176-1 standards: You need 6’ of chain. Pull the screws out of the top of the yoke and put the chain in between the washers then tighten. Go down 26 links and add H-shackle. At the bottom of the seat, attach S-hook or Shackle to the eye bolt and close according to fastener requirements. See above in red what chain you need for frame height.
Safe Use: This seat is for children 5 – 12 years old only. Seat is to be used one child at a time. This seat is for children up to 125 lbs. only. Not for Adults. Adults should supervise children at all times. Parents should visually and manually look to see that swing is appropriately installed and not vandalized or needing repair before allowing a child to swing. Do not allow children to stand on seat, yoke or optional harness or use unsafely. Do not allow it to be used if damaged. If a child requires the seat to lean back further for more support, this can be done by adjusting where the one single chain attaches to the V chain. This can be adjusted by lowering the h shackle on the V. Make sure that it is the same on both sides. If you need further information as to how to do this, please do not hesitate to contact us at 1-800-433-2573 for this or any other question. As always, if there are any questions as to whether the use of this swing is safe for a certain individual, please contact their doctor for more information.
Maintenance: To reduce chance of injury do monthly routine maintenance checks for cracks, rust, sharp edges, open S-hooks or shackles, worn optional harness, shackles, chain and eyebolts. Replace any worn, damaged or vandalized parts. Make sure there are no exposed footings, anchoring devices, rocks, roots, holes or any other obstacles in or around playground equipment. This will reduce serious injuries. In high use areas these inspections should be done more frequently. Clean with mild soap and water when you do the monthly maintenance checks. If you see wear on a swing, replace all swings purchased at the same time. Remove swings from set when temperature reaches zero or over 100°. To replace chain you need 6’ of chain. Pull the screws out of the top of the yoke and put the chain in between the washers then tighten. Go down 26 links and add H-shackle. At the bottom of the seat, attach S-hook or Shackle to the eye bolt and close according to fastener requirements. See above in red what chain you need for frame height.
Maintain detailed inspection and maintenance records for public-use playground equipment.
Any damage from vandalism, abuse or misuse VOIDS all warranties.
