This product is intended for residential purposes only.
This is a high-quality, heavy-duty residential swing seat designed for durability and safety. The seat is made of EPDM rubber, which is a synthetic rubber material that resists crazing, cracking, and oxidizing, unlike natural rubber swings which may wear off on children’s clothes and deteriorate quickly. The seat has two stainless steel inserts with a stainless strip welded to connect them, and four stainless steel washers welded to the inserts for added strength. These washers are not visible from the outside of the seat. The seat dimensions are 26.25″ x 5.25″ x ¼” and require a large end A6500 S-hook or A5725 H-Shackle to connect the seat to the chain.
The swing seat is made in the USA to the highest standards and has hidden safety features that are not visible to the customers. The seat is designed to hold up well in extreme temperatures, both very hot and very cold. The seat has a tensile strength of 3400 lbs, making it suitable for heavy use. The seat should last 2 years in harsh conditions and up to 5 years in optimal conditions, but some conditions may require replacement sooner.
**Installation, Safe Use and Maintenance Instructions**
IMPORTANT: Please read for important information. In this material we have tried to provide some requirements stated in the CPSC Handbooks, ASTM F2373-11, F1487-11 and F1148-09. However, we in no way intend for this to be a complete list of requirements. Also these publications are updated frequently with changes, therefore, you should read these publications yourself to determine if any part or installation could prove a danger to a child.
To help keep children safe from harm, review installation and maintenance instructions before installing equipment. These are located in the description of every product on our website. www.americanswing.com Download and print these instructions and keep in a safe place. Our website also has a “Product Testing Information” page. All products are tested for lead, phthalates and tensile strength. You can also call us at 1-800-433-2573 for more information or see http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/325.pdf.
Installation: Our parts are sold as either replacement parts or components of a set, unless you are buying our Metal Frame Set, therefore these parts need to be installed according to the sets installation instructions. If the installation instructions differ from ours please contact us at 800-433-2573.
This swing is intended for children four years to twelve years old only for RESIDENTIAL USE ONLY. Read all instructions before attempting assembly. To determine proper use zones needed for swing set consult page 4 of the Outdoor Home Playground Safety Handbook. Install swing set where a child can easily be supervised. Do not install playground equipment over concrete, asphalt, or any other hard surface. A fall onto a hard surface can result in serious injury to the equipment user. Grass and dirt are not considered protective surfacing because wear and environmental factors can reduce their shock absorbing effectiveness. Carpeting and thin mats are generally not adequate protective surfacing. Install your play equipment on level ground with adequate surfacing and anchoring. Use proper hardware, and tighten all connections.
Place tire swings and disk swings in separate bays, away from other swinging equipment. Space swings at least as far apart as indicated: 8 inches minimum for swings with limited sideways motion; 24 inches minimum between swings with unlimited lateral motion (such as disk swings) and support poles when measured from the side of the swing perpendicular to the plane formed by the support poles; 12 inches minimum between lawn swings and equipment support poles measured at 28 inches above the seat; 16 inches minimum between the teeter-totter’s seat center and support poles at 22 inches above the seating surface; 8 inches minimum between the protective surfacing and the underside of a suspended unit. The use zone for the swing should extend to the front and rear of the swing set, a minimum of twice the vertical distance from the top of the occupant’s sitting surface to the pivot point of the swing hanger. The use zone in front of and behind swings should never overlap with any other use zone. The use zone to the sides of a single-axis swing should extend a minimum of 6 feet from the perimeter of the swing. This 6-foot zone may overlap that of an adjacent swing structure or other playground equipment structure.
Warning on swing seat should face upward, so that the warning can be read easily. Measure each side of swing chain, so the swing hangs evenly. WARNING: THIS SWING REQUIRES EITHER A LARGE END S-HOOK OR AN H-SHACKLE TO CONNECT SWING TO CHAIN. NOT USING NAMED FASTENERS CAN RESULT IN SEAT BREAKING AND CHILD BEING INJURED. Attach the large end of H-shackle or one end of large end S-hook through round hole on each end of swing seat, and then attach either other end of large end S-hook or small part of H-shackle to chain. Close according to Figure A1.19 for Fastening Devices. Make sure that fasteners are strong enough to support weight and use. We suggest using H-shackles or 5/16” diameter large end S-hooks to connect chain to seat. WARNING: Once the S-hooks have been opened they will have to be replaced to avoid injuries from coming open and/or breaking. Try swinging seat without child in it first to make sure everything is working correctly before placing child in seat.
Protective surfacing that meets ASTM F1292 must be installed under swing set and extends at least six feet from the sides of the set and twice the height of the top bar in the front and back of swing set. Protective surfacing is one of the most important things that you can do to reduce the likelihood of serious injuries.
The new CPSC standard states the owner/operator of the swing set needs to post warning signs outside the use zone that are readily visible to the intended viewer and alert them to the potential hazard in time to take appropriate action. This message may be on either a sign or label outside the use zone. Signs should be posted that state the appropriate age group for the swing set. Not for Adults. Adults should supervise children at all times. Do not allow children to stand on or use unsafely. Do not allow set to be used if damaged. Remove helmets, drawstrings or accessories around the neck which are all known to create head entrapment or entanglement hazards. Where applicable, Hot play surfaces are known to reach temperatures high enough to cause serious burns to children generally less than 4 years of age.
Specifications for all warning signs or labels should conform to ANSI Z535.1 and ANSI Z535.1 or ANSI Z535.1 in the following areas: legibility, type of lettering, clarity of message and symbol, color specifications and work message and visibility. The labels or signs should be durable and conform to UL 969. It has been and continues to be the responsibility of the owner/operator to replace signs or labels or both should they become illegible, destroyed or removed. Signs can be purchased at http://www.mindspring.com/~safetyplay/
Safe Use: This seat is for children 4 – 12 years old only. This swing is intended for use by only one child at a time. Adults should supervise children at all times. Do not allow children to stand or kneel on seat or use unsafely. Do not allow it to be used if damaged. Do not use when wet. Instruct children not to wrap chains around top beam or twist chains. Tell children to watch for children and adults standing, walking or running close to moving swings and to stop swinging to avoid hitting them and causing injury. Tell children to hold chains tightly in each hand while swinging. Tell children not to get off swing until it has stopped completely.
Maintenance: At beginning and end of each play season and once a month during play season, check for sharp edges and/or cracks in rubber. Make sure the steel insert is not showing through rubber. Carefully check hole around fastener to look for wear in rubber. Check for vandalism. Check for rusty or worn chain. Replace parts if necessary. Check to make sure S-hooks and/ or H-shackles are closed properly. Check resilient surfacing for appropriate depth and cleanliness. If you see wear on a swing, replace all swings purchased at the same time. Remove swings from set when temperature reaches zero or over 100°.
Any damage from vandalism, abuse or misuse VOIDS all warranties.
