**Installation, Safe Use and Maintenance Instructions**

IMPORTANT: Please read for important information. In this material we have tried to provide some requirements stated in the CPSC Handbooks, ASTM F2373-11, F1487-11 and F1148-09. However, we in no way intend for this to be a complete list of requirements. Also these publications are updated frequently with changes therefore, you should read these publications yourself to determine if any part or installation could prove a danger to a child.

To help keep children safe from harm, review installation and maintenance instructions before installing equipment. These are located in the description of every product on our website. www.americanswing.com   Download and print these instructions and keep in a safe place. Our website also has a “Product Testing Information” page. All products are tested for lead, phthalates and tensile strength. You can also call us at 1-800-433-2573 for more information or see http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/325.pdf.

Installation:  Our parts are sold as either replacement parts or components of a set, unless you are buying our Metal Frame Set, therefore these parts need to be installed according to the sets installation instructions. If the installation instructions differ from ours please contact us at 800-433-2573.

Grease the Tire Swivel before using. Tire Swivel must be installed in a bay without any other components. For tire swings, extend surfacing in a circle whose radius is equal to the height of the suspending chain or rope, plus 6 feet in all directions. Put each half of tire swivel around a schedule 40 3” pipe. This pipe’s outside diameter will be 3 1/2”. With the head of one of the included bolts starting on the top of the pipe and going down towards ground, put bolt through bolt holes in both the top and then bottom half of tire swivel plates. Put flat washer on bottom of bolt, and secure with the included nylock nut. (Bolt, washers and nuts are included.) Put bolts and washers through beam so that nuts are on the bottom of top beam, and so that the bolt is attached with no more than two thread showing beyond the nut. This will prevent a protrusion on the top beam. Check to see bolts are straight and nuts are tight. Repeat this process with all four bolts.

You will need to use S-hooks or H shackles from the chain to the swivel. Make sure the S-hooks are closed to within .04 to meet ASTM safety standards. To do this you will need to use our S-hook pliers or a regular pair of channel lock pliers. WARNING: Once the S-hooks have been opened they will have to be replaced to avoid injuries from coming open and/or breaking. Make sure that if you are using shackles they are also tightened correctly. No bolts should protrude over two threads past its nut.

Safe Use: This is for children 2 – 12 years old only. Adults should supervise children at all times. Do not allow children to use unsafely. Do not allow it to be used if damaged.

Maintenance: Do the following to reduce the chance of serious injuries. At beginning and end of each play season and once a month during play season, check for rusty or worn chain. Carefully check hole around fasteners to look for wear. Check for vandalism. Check to make sure s hooks and/ or H-shackles are closed properly. Check spinning action and make sure there is no binding, and using a grease gun put a sufficient amount of standard grease into the swivel through the grease fitting. You will see the grease come out when it is full. We have used a McKay Molybdenum Disulfide grease cartridge, but any standard grease cartridge from any auto part store should be sufficient. There are two grease fittings that must be checked and filled with grease during maintenance. The first is at the bottom of the hanger in the swivel head and is easily seen and reached. The other grease fitting is harder to reach, and is located under the rubber boot on the universal joint. However, it is important that this grease fitting be checked also. To do this: Cut the zip tie holding the rubber boot. Take two flat head screw drivers and lift the boot down, so that you can put the grease gun nozzle on the grease fitting. Put in sufficient grease. Raise up the rubber boot and secure with another zip tie. Cut off excess plastic tail on zip tie. Make sure all nuts and bolts are secure and not worn. Look for loose parts, torn or missing rubber boots, cracks in metal or rust. Replace parts necessary for safety. Maintain detailed inspection and maintenance records for public-use playground equipment.

Any damage from vandalism, abuse or misuse VOIDS all warranties.
